Cottage essentials
All the boring but helpful bits that you’ll need for a perfect stay…
Balthazar has a mega Asado grill which is perfect for a slow summer’s evening. We have spent many a happy evening
outside, so we hope the weather allows you to do the same. You’ll find everything you need to light the BBQ in the
woodstore underneath. Follow this video for instructions on how to light and use the BBQ.
Once finished and the BBQ is cold, we would be grateful if you could clean it, ready for the next guests. Please put
any ash or unburnt wood in the bucket next to the BBQ.
For your safety and security, there is a CCTV located outside the boot room door.

We love our little cottage and want every guest to love it too so please leave her as you found her. We do not change
towels or linen on 3-night stays, but we will for longer stays and will organise a suitable time with you. If you need
more towels, they are located in the airing cupboard outside the bathroom.
Bins are located under the sink. Please place rubbish bags outside and phone reception for collection.
Balthazar is dog friendly. Our dog, Digby, loves laying on the grass in the sun but each to their own…
So Digby doesn’t feel outmuscled we only allow up to 1 medium sized dog to stay. We charge £30 per night and provide a dog bed, blanket, bowls and treats. Please don’t let pooch go upstairs and please clean up after your dog in the garden. There are so many great walks in the Forest where dogs can run free, but when you are in Bucklers Hard, please keep them on a lead. Don’t worry, we’ve provided one in the boot-room in case you’ve forgotten it.
There are some cushions for the chairs outside and the BBQ cooking tools, located on the bottom shelf behind the front door. You’ll also find some useful bits for walks and picnics…
Your kitchen is stocked with all the essentials but if there is something you specifically need, we will do our best to supply it. Please just ask hotel reception.
Feel free to light the stove on cold days. You’ll find wood, kindling and firelighters by the stove. If you need more wood, please give reception a call and we will bring it over. Please do not take from the pile in the breakfast room. We have laid your first fire for you, so all you need to do is light it. Light the fire and leave the door slightly ajar ensuring the knob at the bottom of the log burner is pulled towards you. Allow the flames to build and then shut the door. Adjust the knob for more or less heat.’
There is a hairdryer in each room, in the chest of drawers.
Please turn on or adjust the Thermostat at the top of the stairs or on the radiators in each room as required. The boiler will provide a constant source of hot water.
There is an ironing board and iron in the cupboard in the bedroom next to the bathroom.
Luggage racks are located in the bedroom cupboards.
There is a phone located in the hallway. Just pick up the handset and it will call the hotel reception. I’m afraid you cannot make outside calls.
You’ll find a wee radio in each bedroom. These are wireless but you can find the charger and instructions in the top drawer of each chest of drawers.
To operate the electric shower, make sure the switch is on outside the bathroom, indicated by the red light. To turn the shower on, press on the on switch which will glow green. Turn the temperature as desired. To turn off, press the on switch again. It won’t go off immediately but only take a few seconds. Please turn the switch off outside the bathroom, once finished.
There is a Sonos speaker in the lounge which you can connect to and play your own music. Make sure you are on “Master Builder’s” WiFi. Head to the app you are playing music through and then search for the speaker which is called “living room”. Hey Presto!
Sky and Netflix are available on TV. Turn on the TV and scroll down to “Balthazar Sky box” in the bottom left of the screen. If the sky box is off, you will need to turn it on using the sky remote. Once on, just follow the onscreen instructions to what you want to watch.
If you fancy watching something from your own apps, you can cast your device to the TV which is setup for Airplay and Chromecast. Make sure you are on “Master Builder’s” WiFi. Every device is different, but you should be able to find the TV when screen mirroring. The TV has a catchy name – LG webOS TV UT81006LA. Told you!
Just in case you forget yours, we have stocked the boot room with size 6 and 10 Barbour wellies and a boy’s and girl’s wax jacket, kindly provided by New Forest Clothing.
There is free WiFi in the cottage and garden. Please search for the “Master Builder’s” network. There is no password.
